The Gauntlet Trophy


The Gauntlet Trophy is for fly-for-fun competitions and is the property of the Banbridge Aeromodelling Club. It is a challenge trophy and requires any interested club to 'THROW THE GAUNTLET DOWN' and challenge the Banbridge Club to a fly-for-fun competition in order to take the Gauntlet Trophy away from them.

One such competition was held at the Banbridge flying field on 1st May 99, between BAC and Dungannon MFC. On the day we were blessed with perfect sunny weather and a very light breeze blowing straight up the field. About 9 members took part in the event which stsrted at about !!.15am with a pilots breifing by Competition Director (and eventual winner) Simon McNeill of the Banbridge Club.

Everyone, without exception, enjoyed the event and the friendly rivalry that went with it. Unfortunately, the only sour note of the day was the result which showed that Banbridge had won by a narrow margin. CONGRATULATIONS! to BAC.

One thing which was really impressive was the standard of flying - especially by the half dozen or so Junior members. Before we left for home, a return event was arranged for Saturday 19th June at our flying field. We're hopeing to send the Banbridge boys home on the 19th, WITHOUT their Gauntlet Trophy!
